High Tech High North County is a public charter school which draws upon the diversity of the San Diego North County region through a random lottery acceptance system. The goal of HTHNC is to offer a college preparatory, project-based learning environment to 9-12 grade students. HTHNC also aim to inspire students to become civic leaders through real-world, authentic learning experiences – such as being on a FIRST Robotics team.
FIRST Robotics Team 4014, the High Tech High Top Hat Technicians ([HT3] for short) are a team of hard-working and robotics-minded students and mentors. Founded in 2012, we practice engineering, collaboration, and leadership skills needed to compete in the FIRST Robotics Competition. We are active in our community, organizing and co-hosting the official North County Season Kickoff events at ViaSat, and we conduct engineering and robotics workshops for local teams. We plan, prototype, build, and test our full-scale robots with very limited resources, relying on sponsorships, donations and fundraising to compete.
The Varsity Sport for the Mind™, the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) combines the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology. Under strict rules, limited resources, and time limits, teams of 25 students or more are challenged to raise funds, design a team “brand,” hone teamwork skills, and build and program robots to perform prescribed tasks against a field of competitors. It’s as close to “real-world engineering” as a student can get. Volunteer professional mentors lend their time and talents to guide each team. Learn more »
